Ultra Gel, a sodium based synthetic polymer, serves as a moisture & water absorbent polymer that manifests the capacity of absorbing upto 400 – 600 times of DM water of its own weight. The ability of Ultra Gel to absorb moisture / water is derived by the ionic concentration of the aqueous solution.
Ultra gel sachets constitute a group of polymeric materials, the hydrophilic structure of which renders them capable of holding large amounts of moisture & water in their threedimensional networks. Extensive employment of these products in a number of industrial and environmental areas of application is considered to be of prime importance.
Ultra Gel has received FDA approval and is classified as GRAS, or Generally Recognized as Safe. It is also CIR (Cosmetic Ingredient Review) approved.
Ultra Gel polymer can retain excessive amounts of moisture & water because of the osmotic pressure (i.e. movement of water through a semipermeable membrane). Osmotic pressure induced by the high moisture con-centration outside a ultra gel molecule draws the moisture into the center of the molecule. Ultra Gel continues to absorb the moisture until there is an equal pressure of water inside and outside the ultra gel molecule.
The more tightly enclosed the more vapor - proof you can make the Storage area being protected the better, otherwise ultra gel will drink up moisture from all outdoors best to make the protected are vapor-proofs as possible.
